The Victim

When he got the call, the first thing that our Investigator noticed was the odd fact that the victim was the ballerina. Who would have the heart to harm the gracious and fragile creature such as ballerina dancer? And what could be the motive? His mind screamed: Jealousy! What else? Hello? The artistic world bursts with vanity!

As always, he decided not to jump to conclusions, and he headed right to the theatre. There he found out that the victim was the ballerina who recently joined the company. She came from the UK and quickly found her place in the new stagging of the “Nutcracker”. More precisely, she was given the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy, which is one of the most desired roles in this play.

The victim was hanged, although the forensics report showed that she was poisoned prior to hanging. The poison was awkward. It supposedly kills by entering through skin. Huh… someone really had the twisted mind. Ok, let’s take a look at the suspects.

The Suspects

If you asked our Investigator, almost anyone who had any kind of a relationship with the victim at her workplace was a suspect. He interviewed them all, and the three suspects stood out.

The Understudy

The ballerina understudy was the first suspect as she had the strongest motive. At least at the first glance. This young lady claimed that she was not friends with the victim. However, she denied having anything to do with the murder, naturally. According to her statement, she did not even enter the theatre building on that day, as she was out of town.

She was hoping for the leading role, but eventually accepted the part she was given. The Investigator thought that although being slim, this girl had quite the muscles and was probably able to commit the murder as explained above. Not to mention the wits to plan it. Nevertheless, she seemed to have an alibi, and even sounded genuine.

The Choreographer

The choreographer was an older man, an eccentric who did not think that his angry attitude could do him any harm. He openly showed contempt towards his female co-workers. The investigator could conclude that he hated them both but was forced to work with them. To him, both the victim and the understudy did not live up to the standards of fierce professionalism.

He argued with the victim on the day of her murder and the staff even heard him yell: „Sometimes I wish you would just disappear! Why doesn’t God send me a true artist to work with? What have I done to deserve this? “

Despite all this, the choreographer claimed that he did not kill the ballerina. He reportedly went to a dinner with friends straight from the theatre. He also stated that he does not feel sorry, because she was a stuck-up bitch unworthy of the honour she was given. „Hm… not a smart thing to say when you are one of the suspects “, our Investigator thought.

The Makeup Artist

In a conversation with the Investigator, the make-up artist confirmed that he was friends with the victim. He denied being infatuated with her and claimed he had a girlfriend for whom he would have done anything. The makeup artist and the victim used to spend a lot of time together, especially in the theatre.

On that particular day, he helped the victim try on various make up styles for the premiere performance of the „Nutcracker “. He advised, while the victim liked putting on makeup herself while they gossip. The artist had only nice things to say about the victim. He stated that he eventually had gone home to spend an evening with his girlfriend, the understudy.

The Crime

It was a hazy morning when our Investigator received a call. Another murder happened at the nearby lake, and he was called in to work on a case. The forensics were already there. He woke up immediately and took a sip of his morning coffee before storming out to the crime scene.

When he arrived, the forensics said that the victim had multiple stabbing wounds and was dragged to the scene. It meant that the murder most likely happened elsewhere.

As for the victim’s belongings, all he had on himself managed to fit into his pocket: a very sharp knife. The investigator was puzzled at first. The victim was dressed in his pajamas, which meant someone surprised him at night. Moreover, why would anyone keep the knife in his pajama pocket? Unless the victim feared the intruder and was expecting him. Perhaps they met before.

The Victim’s Background

The victim was an older man who reported a theft just prior to the murder. A few pieces of jewelry were missing from his house. More precisely, some old-style watches, and rings – diamond ring included. He also had a registered Smith and Wesson 442 that went missing. So, the victim was a bit of an old school. Plus, the stolen gun explains the knife in the pocket, the Investigator thought. The Police found his house to be a bit strange and suspected that the victim was a free mason. They actually found a few masonic symbols which were well hidden, yet in plain sight.

Up until that moment the Police still hadn’t solved the theft case. They tried to match the prints from the house with their data base, but it was a dead end. It appeared as if the thief was a ghost. Interestingly, similar situation happened with the murder victim.  No prints in the system, no next of kin.

The Investigator’s Conclusion

The Investigator suspected that the same person who robbed the victim, eventually returned to the house, and killed him. Did he take any souvenir? Or a powerful symbol of any kind?

Most probably – yes. He knew that murderers who pre-meditate usually take souvenirs. Above all – the victim was obviously a member of the secret society, so the theft as well as the murder were most likely planned.

The Investigation

Our Investigator interviewed the potential witnesses and two persons appeared to be of interest to him.

The first one was a man who reported the crime, as he stumbled upon the body near the lake. The second one was the witness who appeared at the crime scene shortly after the 911 call was made but before the Police arrived.

The Witnesses

The first one was a middle-aged man who was taking his dog for a walk that morning. He was dressed in an old, dark coat and was wearing a dark blue cap. He appeared reasonably upset considering the scene he witnessed. Otherwise, he seemed modest, medium classy, with no special features. The Investigator noticed his old ring with an engraved all-seeing eye. The old man claimed that he approached the body after his dog reacted to something strange in the grass. There was no apparent sign in the man’s behavior that he was hiding something.

The second one was a bit younger guy dressed in a leather jacket. He overheard the other man’s 911 call and offered to help, as per his statement. According to his claims, before the police came, he was calming the dog who went crazy. While talking to the police, he flashed his diamond earing and talked in a street-like manner, throwing in phrases our Investigator heard before. His sharp mind deduced that this guy might as well be one of the gang members he chased a long time ago.

The Arrest

Shortly after the interviews, the Investigator arrested the first witness who found the body. Can you guess what gave him away?

The Trace

One early morning, he found footprints right outside the house. He could not decide whether those were actual human footprints. It was raining the previous night and the ground was soggy. He took his gun and followed the trace not knowing what to expect. At this point, he already gave up on the thought of resting anytime in the future. He was obviously not meant to lead a normal life.

As he reached the old barn, he heard coughing and sneezing and cursing. There was obviously someone in there. Was that creature preparing to ambush him as he opens the door?

The Strange Visitor

The Investigator opened the door slowly, identifying himself and calling for whomever is there to step out with hands up. At first, nothing happened. Then, as he repeated his lines, the creature decided to step out, slightly hesitating.

The Investigator was completely puzzled, for the first time in his long career. This was not happening. It cannot be. He was looking at the creature in awe and once he passed the initial surprise, he could not but ask himself where he had seen this fellow before.

I know you are wondering the same yourself, so we will try to describe the vision that appeared before our Investigator.

The character was short and chubby. He was dressed in navy blue and white striped jumper. He was also wearing a cap in the same color. The little cartoon-like character was holding a bag with the dollar sign on it, which was the first sign that something was wrong. Did he rob the bank? The Investigator was still trying to process the entire setting, while holding his gun pointed at the strange visitor.

Our favorite Crime Investigator is back after taking a short leave at the beginning of this year. He took off to one of the paradise-like tropical islands. The year he left behind was heavy, the same as the atmosphere surrounding his life at that point in time. However, the island brought light into his life. Happiness was just an extra benefit. The Island Life

He liked spending time at the beach. The sun and the ocean provided the much-needed rest. Above all, silence was soothing, and he hoped that no one would disturb his peace.

After all, what can go wrong here? This tropical village is secluded. There are very few routes to reach it, and all of them are controlled. The villagers all know each other. Basically, they are just living one day at a time, minding their own business.

Soon upon his arrival, the locals took him under their wings, as one of their own. He enjoyed the newly adopted image of a big city hot-shot detective.

The Island Murder Mystery

One evening, a woman came to the local police station to report a missing person. Her husband hadn’t come home for more than a day. At first, she had not been worried because he had the habit of staying up late at the local bar or wondering off to the sea with his buddies.

However, this time, no one had seen him for more than 24 hours. The woman told the Police that there were people who had never liked him, and some of them even had fights with him. She gave their names and pointed out that her husband owed money to the barman at the local bar. She claimed he had been receiving threats.

The local police could not easily untangle the island murder mystery. Therefore, they consulted our guy who worked on many similar cases in the past. He read the woman’s statement and asked around. This was supposed to be a vacation, but he could not help himself.  The drive to solve the murder mystery in this paradise was too strong. Soon, the man’s body washed ashore. They performed an autopsy and concluded the man was strangled and pushed into the ocean. The hunt for the murderer started.

The Suspects

After interrogation, the Investigator made a short list of suspects as the first step in solving the murder mystery. Here they are:

  • The man’s best friend who confessed having an affair with the widow. He stated that he had used to go sailing with the victim, but apparently never told him about the affair in fear of ruining their friendship. On the night of the disappearance, he claimed to be at the bar, drinking. The Investigator found him resting on the beach early in the morning, after the man apparently took a swim.
  • The local barman who did not like the victim and threatened him publicly. The barman said that he had never liked the victim and described him as a rude, and arrogant guy, who also owed him money. However, he also stated that he had not killed him and that after he had served drinks to the widow as the last and only guest at the bar, he went home and stayed there with his family the entire night of the murder. His wife confirmed his alibi.
  • The widow who reported the case. She claimed that she had spent the evening and the night alone, in the bar and at home, as well as the next day when she wandered the beach and had been asking around. She also stated that she had not killed her husband and that she had loved him dearly, although he had been a difficult man to live with.

Christmas Crime Story

In his younger days, before joining the force, our Investigator was quite a wild child. Casinos have always been his passion. Everything surrounding the glitter and luxury of Vegas and casino operations interests him still.  However, in those early days, he was more interested in finding a flaw in the system than protecting it. Hence the people he was hanging around with were robbers mainly.

One day, during the Christmas frenzy, he found himself in an odd situation. He woke up naked next to the woman he could not recognize.
